Cornwall Farm Experiences
Holistic Animal Therapy
Terras Farm, nestled between Truro and St Austell in the heart of Cornwall, is currently under the guardianship of husband and wife team, Roger and Tanya Olver, who are dedicated to preserving and evolving their family’s proud farming heritage. The Olver family has been custodians of Terras Farm for five generations, navigating challenges such as two world wars, agricultural crises, and fluctuating economic times.
In its early days, the farm relied on teams of hardworking horses and all family members to cultivate and harvest the land. As time passed, teams of horses were replaced by horse-powered tractors and modern machinery, transforming the way the farm worked. Starting as a mixed farm, (livestock and crops which were grown for animal feed and bedding) there were dairy milking cows, pigs, hens, and sheep.
Over time, the dairy herd became the backbone of the business, alongside Roger’s successful agricultural contracting business. However, in 1999, the family made the difficult decision to sell the dairy herd and transition out of contracting. Undeterred, the Olvers embraced change, launching Cornish Duck, a venture dedicated to producing top-quality free-range duck.
Roger and Tanya established a farm-to-fork business, hatching, rearing, processing, and packaging all their ducks on-site. Their dedication to quality quickly earned Cornish Duck a reputation among top-tier restaurants and Michelin-starred chefs across Cornwall and the rest of the UK. Regulars at food fairs and farmers' markets, Roger and Tanya built strong connections with their customers while cementing Cornish Duck as an award winning luxury brand.
After years of success, the Olvers decided to shift focus, selling the Cornish Duck business to concentrate their efforts in breeding and supplying waterfowl, to new and existing poultry keepers. Alongside this, they offered popular duck-keeping and incubation courses, specialists in their field Roger and Tanya are recognised as some of Cornwall’s leading waterfowl experts.
Visitors to Terras Farm often found themselves captivated by the ducks and Tanya’s ever growing collection of animals. An idea began to take shape: why not share this experience with more people? So, Tanya began offering pre-booked, hands-on experiences with animals like rescued moorland ponies, pygmy goats, alpacas and, of course, their famous ducks.
What started as a low key activity soon grew into something truly transformative. Terras Farm became a safe and nurturing space for neurodiverse children and adults, offering the calming and healing power of therapy through animals. Witnessing the profound impact these interactions had, Tanya launched Cornish Farm Experiences, creating a haven for connection, growth, and joy.
Today, Terras Farm is more than just a working farm—it’s a thriving community hub. Tanya and Roger continue to enrich the lives of their visitors by offering holistic on-farm activities for people of all ages and abilities, while maintaining their waterfowl care and education offering.
